Santa Clara wildlife control tip of the month:
What do wildlife rehabilitators do with raccoons?
So you caught a raccoon in your home and are now wondering what to do with it. You could kill the thing, but that is just not you. You want to give the raccoon a chance, so you take it somewhere to see if you can save it, but where. Then someone recommends a wildlife rehabilitator to you. What the heck is that? Good question.
Wildlife rehabilitators are people that travel to areas and help with animal wildlife that likely had their habitat ruined during a natural disaster like a hurricane, tornado or fire. They are specially trained to help these animals get back on their feet, plus they help in the relocation of animals that Santa Clara wildlife removal found in someone’s attic and need to be moved to a more logical location.
Here is exactly what these people do. Let’s say that a tornado has hit an area where trees and debris has been thrown everywhere. The raccoons will be trying to find food and may not be able to because so much is destroyed. This may cause them to become malnourished, or they may wander into neighborhoods looking for food because they cannot find anywhere their homes once were.
These Santa Clara animal control experts come in and capture the raccoon and take them to a new location where they can find the things they need to survive. Frequently the wildlife rehabilitator will look for locations that are nearly identical to the one that the raccoon came from. This is to try to remove the shock that the raccoon may be feeling from being ripped from its home and dragged somewhere else by Santa Clara exterminators.
For example, a raccoon that lived in a heavily wooded area would not be moved to a swampy area. This is not something it is used to, and may struggle against unfamiliar predators, be unable to find food or a place to live. This will make its life expectancy quite low.
Instead a suitable environment is found that can really provide the right kind of relocation for the raccoon caught by Santa Clara pest control. These animals are frequently tagged to monitor their progress, and to ensure that they are successfully transitioning. If it is found that the habitat was not suitable then the rehabilitator might think for the future that this is not a good location for placement of future raccoons.
This is a great career that gives people the opportunity to really make a change in the lives of animals. It is really making a difference.
